Viorel Cibotaru was suggested for the post of Moldova’s Ambassador to Belgium. His candidacy was accepted by the Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration, as was the candidacy of Andrei Popov for Moldova’s Ambassador to Greece, IPN reports.
Currently, Viorel Cibotaru is the executive director of the European Institute for Political Studies of Moldova. He has experience in the academic and public sectors. He worked as a lecturer at the Department of Journalism, as programs director at the Institute for Public Policy and as director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center. In 2015, he served as minister of defense, while in 2019 as adviser to the minister of foreign policy and European integration. In 2016-2018, he headed the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova.
Andrei Popov holds the diplomatic rank of ambassador. Since 2014 until present, he headed the Multilateral Cooperation Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. In 2013-2016, he served as Moldova’s Ambassador to Austria and, simultaneously, to Slovakia and as Moldova’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE and the United Nations Office at Vienna, etc.
Also, Mihaela Mocanu was proposed for Ambassador to Austria. Since October 2019, she has held the post of head of the OSCE and International Security Unit of the Multilateral Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
Viorel Ursu was suggested for the post of Ambassador to the United States. He is a Master of European Law. Since January 2014, he headed the Europe and Eurasia Program Department. He also serves as regional director at the Open Society Foundations in London.
In accordance with the law, the ambassadors are named and recalled by the President of the Republic of Moldova at the suggestion of the Government. The candidates for ambassador are proposed by the minister of foreign affairs and European integration by consulting the Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration.
