Igor Grosu: If Government does not allocate money for elections, we will mount protests

The acting president of the Party of Action and Solidarity Igor Grosu is bewildered at the delay in allocating money for organizing the snap elections on the part of the Government. The PAS leader voiced hope that the decision on the allocation of the necessary funds will be taken in the next meeting of the Executive or they will call on the citizens to take to the streets to defend their right to vote, IPN reports.

Igor Grosu said Moldova has the money needed for organizing the snap parliamentary elections and the Government should adopt a draft decision on the allocation of funds as swiftly as possible or they could mount protests.

“The money was identified. We know where this money can be taken from and I hope that the Government in the next meeting will adopt the decision on the allocation of funds for organizing the elections. Otherwise, we, the citizens, reserve the right to defend this right. Those who try to usurp the power are afraid of the citizens only. Regrettably, they are not afraid of prosecutors or judges,” Igor Grosu stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The acting president of the PAS said the non-allocation of funds for elections when there was issued a presidential decree by which the election day was set is a violation of the law that can be punished.

“There is money, but we are witnessing an attempt, which I cannot explain, by Dodon and his coalition to place obstacles to the proper organization of elections. I’m glad that the CEC adopted the electoral calendar and all the political players can start preparations. Furthermore, this is an argument for the Executive to fulfill its duty. If they do not identify funds, they should be aware they are liable to punishment, including criminal one, as they obstruct a legal process,” stated Igor Grosu.
The Central Election Commission decided that a sum of 125 million lei is needed for organizing the snap parliamentary elections of July 11.
