Parliament during 33 years adopted almost 13,000 normative documents

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is marking its 33rd anniversary. During this period, the legislative body adopted almost 13,000 normative documents and had about 1,900 sittings, IPN reports.

The Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Division said that during 33 years of activity, the legislature passed 14 constitutional laws. Almost 6,000 of the adopted laws were organic laws, while 508 were ordinary laws. The rest of the adopted acts were decisions.

In the anniversary context, archival photographs showing the Parliament Building since 1973 until now were exhibited in the Parliament Square. The images are from the collections of the National Archives Agency and the State Information Agency Moldpres. Also, vintage cars with which former state officials traveled where displayed.

The legislative body has been called Parliament since May 23, 1991. It was previously called the Supreme Soviet. On May 23, 1991, according to the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic of the twelfth legislature, established after the first democratic elections, the union republic MSSR was transformed into the Republic of Moldova, while the Supreme Soviet became the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
