The authorities are not considering, for now, changing the retirement age, even though they acknowledge the need to adjust the pension system to ensure its sustainability, in the context of increasing life expectancy in the Republic of Moldova. The statements were made by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, reports IPN.
“For the moment, we are not analyzing the increase or decrease of this age, even though we acknowledge that people live longer, including in the Republic of Moldova. Life expectancy has increased by two years and we certainly need to intervene to ensure the sustainability of this system, which is why it would be appropriate to revise the pension system in relation to age,” added Natalia Plugaru.
Starting from January 1, 2019, men in the Republic of Moldova retire at the age of 63, and for women a gradual increase has been introduced, with an additional six months annually, so that the retirement age will be equalized in 2028. From July 1, women will retire at the age of 62.
