Exports from Moldova, on the rise at the beginning of the year

Exports of goods from the Republic of Moldova increased in February by 7.8% compared to January and by 10.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. In the first two months of the year, the main markets for Moldovan products were Romania, Turkey, and Italy, reports IPN.

The National Bureau of Statistics specifies that, in the first two months, the total goods exports amounted to 550 million euros, increasing by 11.6% compared to the same period last year. The exports of domestic products reached 445 million euros during this period, which is 80.9% of the total exports.

Goods exports to European Union countries, in January-February, reached 340 million euros, 10.6% more compared to the same period last year. At the same time, deliveries to the Commonwealth of Independent States countries, in January-February, totaled over 34 million euros, 18.5% more compared to the same period in 2025.

In January and February, exports were mainly focused on a few groups of goods. In the first place were oilseeds – 22.8% of total exports, followed by machinery and electrical equipment and parts thereof (14.0%) and vegetables and fruits (11.1%).

Fats and vegetable oils, petroleum and petroleum products, furniture, non-metallic mineral articles, as well as metallic ores and metal waste have had smaller weights.

In the meantime, imports have been marked by a mixed trend with significant monthly increases, but slight decreases compared to the same period last year. Thus, goods imports increased by 17.7% in February compared to January, but slightly decreased, by 1.5%, on an annual basis.

In January-February, the predominant imports were gas and derivative products, which had the highest share – 17.7% of the total. They were followed by oil and petroleum products (each 7.1%), as well as machinery and electrical appliances (6.8%) and electric power (5.6%). Other imported categories included vegetables and fruits, pharmaceutical products, and telecommunications equipment.
