A 74-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman died after allegedly inhaling gas emitted by a water heater. It happened on Sunday morning in Drepcăuți village of Briceni district. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the persons violated the rules of using installations connected to gas, IPN reports.
The call to the 112 Service was received at 08:59 a.m. A team of firefighters and rescuers travelled to the scene and determined that the two got poisoned by gas emanated from the water heater connected to a propane-butane gas cylinder. The exhaust pipe of the water heater was not going out and the exhaust gas was emitted inside the house, according to the preliminary examinations.
All the circumstances are yet to be determined.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations urges the people to comply with the safety rules when installing and using gas installations. The citizens are asked to periodically check the installations used and, if malfunctions are detected, to fix them so as not to endanger their lives. Also, special attention should be paid to the exhaust pipes, which must be unclogged and in good functional condition.
Moreover, the citizens must ensure the rooms where there are gas-powered and open-flame appliances are permanently ventilated.
In risk and exceptional situations, the people must call the 112 Emergency Service.
