The exchange rate of the Moldovan leu against the US dollar in December increased by 1.6% to 18.3569 USD/MDL, compared to 18.0651 USD/MDL in November, IPN reports.
According to the National Bank of Moldova, in the last month of last year, the degree of covering the net demand for foreign currency by economic agents through the net supply of foreign currency from individuals was 69.9%, as opposed to 48.3% in November.
Compared to the previous month, the net supply of foreign currency from individuals grew by US$60.3 million (+37.2%), and the net demand for foreign currency from economic agents decreased by US$17.9 million (-5.3%).
The central bank intervened on the local interbank market through sales in the amount of US$55.9 million.
