Alexandru Harea is the new director of the State Protection and Guard Service. The appointment decree was signed by President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
According to the document, Alexandru Harea will begin his mandate on February 18. Previously, he worked in the Ministry of Defense, holding leadership positions in areas such as defense planning, security policy development and coordination of peacekeeping units.
The SPPS specifies that Alexandru Harea participated in national and international peacekeeping missions, including within the UN operations in Ivory Coast (UNOCI mission) and in Syria (UNDOF mission).
The position of director of the SPPS became vacant in November 2025, after President Maia Sandu dismissed the former director Vasile Popa and one of his deputies, Vitalie Lupașcu. According to official information, both resignations took place at the request of those concerned.
