Tatiana Molcean named Executive Secretary of UN Economic Commission for Europe

Ambassador Tatiana Molcean, the Republic of Moldova’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, was named the new Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said the election of Tatiana Molcean for his top managerial post in the UN as a result of a competitive contest is a confirmation of her diplomatic and leadership skills and of her rich knowledge in the organization’s competence areas. It is also clear recognition of the professionalism, successes and accomplishments of the Moldovan diplomatic service, of the government commitments to the multilateral agenda.

The Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă said the appointment of Tatiana Molcean as the ECE Executive Secretary is “excellent news for the Republic of a Moldova and is indubitable recognition of the professionalism of our people. She brings to the position twenty years of experience in the public sector with extensive international cooperation and development experience.”

Tatiana Molcean was named by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. She will form part of the Senior Management Group of the UN.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE or UNECE) is one of the five regional commissions under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. It was established in 1947 in order to promote economic cooperation and integration among its member states. The Commission is composed of 56 member states, most of which are based in Europe, as well as a few outside of Europe. It promotes sustainable development and economic prosperity by political dialogue, negotiation of international legal instruments, working out of regulations and norms, exchange and implementation of the best practices.
