The managers of primary and secondary schools and lyceums will be able to provide higher bonuses for the work of class master, for grading written test papers, for managing laboratories and activities involving children with special educational needs. The bonuses will represent at most 10% of the annual budget intended for remunerating teaching staff. The document that stipulates a new method of calculating specific bonuses to salaries for teachers was discussed in public debates, IPN reports.
After the document is adopted, a teacher managing a class of 35 students will benefit from a bonus for the work of class master of at most 880 lei, up from the current bonus of 560 lei. Each institution will decide the sum depending on the available financial resources.
According to Minister of Education Dan Perciun, the previous bonus rates for each of the activities hadn’t been reviewed for a long period. These payments can be made, but are not mandatory. It depends on the institution’s disposable incomes. The approach is now different as the number of students and the subject will be taken into account as some of the subjects entail a heavier workload.
Under the methodology, the specific bonus for the work of class master will be paid for the period of time worked effectively during the school year, including during vacations. This wasn’t stipulated earlier. The bonus for grading written test papers, for managing laboratories and activities involving children with special educational needs could be paid for the period of time worked effectively between September 1 and May 31, including the autumn, winter, spring, and Easter vacations.
The specific bonus will be calculated yearly, based on the number of students registered on October 1 of each school year.
The draft document will be debated until August 7, 2023. The minister voiced hope that the document will be adopted before the start of the new school year.
