A 39-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years and six months in jail after he applied a number of scams and caused over 2 million lei damage to more than 50 persons. The man appropriated over 1.5 kg of gold and sold an apartment that didn’t belong to him. He was listed wanted after he didn’t show up for the hearings, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2018-2021, the culprit, on the pretext of making golden items, cheated a number of persons out of golden jewels weighing 1.532,45 kg and out of over 729,000 lei.
In 2018, when he was entrusted with the task of registering an apartment in the name of a woman, he appropriated the apartment situated in Buiucani district of Chisinau, causing almost half a million lei damage to the victim.
Also, in 2021, on the pretext of possessing a proxy to sell an apartment in Durlești town, he obtained €3,000 paid by a victim in advance for the apartment.
The Buiucani Court of Chisinau sentenced the man to 18 years and a half in semi-closed jail and banned this from holding posts or performing activities related to the management of money and the property of others persons for a five-year period.
The sentence is not final and can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court.
