After the expiration of the red heatwave code, Romania is facing severe atmospheric instability. Meteorologists have issued an orange storm code for several regions in the east of the country, Transylvania and Muntenia, where heavy rain, gales and hail are expected. At the same time, the south of the country is under a yellow code for strong wind until Thursday, reports IPN.
The National Meteorology Administration mentions that in the areas under orange code, heavy rain showers with lightning, strong gales, and medium to large-sized hail are forecasted.
At the same time, a yellow wind code is also issued until Thursday, until after midnight. The warning targets the counties of Mehedinți, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, and Giurgiu, where the wind will intensify with gusts of 50-70 km/h.
In the past few days, strong storms have caused damage in several localities in Romania, including Bihor, Satu Mare, and Timiș. Pieces of roofs torn off by the wind have fallen onto cars, roads, and power cables. Several cars have been damaged, and entire areas have been left without electricity, according to Antena 3 CNN.
In Maramureș, a five-minute storm ripped off the roofs of at least 15 households, broke concrete poles, and entire greenhouses, as well as crops in the fields, were completely destroyed. A man from Arad miraculously escaped after a tree fell on the car he was in. And in a locality, also in Arad county, a villa caught fire after being struck by lightning. In Reșița, several trams were damaged by the powerful storm.
