The CEC forms working groups to manage major risks at the parliamentary elections

The Central Electoral Commission has identified several major challenges in organizing the parliamentary elections on September 28, among which are political financing, external interference, candidate verification, and digital security. The Vice President of the CEC, Pavel Postica, stated in an interview for IPN that six inter-institutional working groups have already been created to manage these aspects.

“Political financing issues are no longer a problem only in the Republic of Moldova – we have seen this also at an international conference we recently organized. They remain a fundamental challenge for us”, mentioned Pavel Postica.

In addition to financing, the CEC will closely monitor cybersecurity, candidate eligibility verification, organization of polling stations for voters from the Transnistrian region and abroad. Also, electoral communication in the media, including online, will be monitored.

“The flow of candidates can be quite large in a short time. Traditionally, on the first day of filing, five or six parties present themselves, each with a list of candidates. We have seven days for checks, which requires a coordinated effort between institutions”, stated the vice president of the CEC.

The working groups include representatives from several key institutions, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Anti-Corruption Center, the State Fiscal Service, the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service, the Public Services Agency, and other relevant institutions, depending on the field addressed.

“It is possible that new challenges may arise. That’s exactly why we are preparing to intervene quickly and effectively”, Pavel Postica added.
