Foreign language students with a B2 certificate will automatically receive a “10” at the BAC in Romanian language

Foreign language students will be able to automatically receive a “10” grade in Romanian Language and Literature at the BAC if they have passed the Romanian language communication skills certification exam in grades X-XII and hold a certificate with a B2 level or higher, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The proposal was discussed with over 200 teachers and will come into effect after its approval by the National Examinations Commission, reports IPN.

“If a student already demonstrates an advanced level of communication in the Romanian language, it is only natural that this achievement should be recognized by the educational system without additional tests,” declared Minister Dan Perciun, quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Education and Research.

The Director of the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment, Lilia Ivanov, emphasized that this decision comes in support of students who make constant efforts to perfect their knowledge of the Romanian language.

After the completion of consultations with the professors, the proposal will be forwarded to the National Examinations Commission.

According to the Regulation on the national baccalaureate examination, the automatic “10” grade for the foreign language test is awarded to candidates who have passed, in the tenth to twelfth grades, exams with international recognition for the certification of linguistic competences. Starting with the 2024 session, the automatic “10” grade is also awarded to candidates who have passed international exams for the certification of competences in the field of computer science.
