Over 30,000 electric and hybrid vehicles were registered last year in Moldova. According to the National Center for Sustainable Energy, this is a record level, confirming a clear upward trend. Compared to 2024, the increase recorded in 2025 was about 35% for electric cars and 31% for hybrids, IPN reports.
According to the data processed by CNED based on the information provided by the Public Services Agency, between 2018 and 2025, over 87 thousand electric and hybrid vehicles were registered in the country. Of these, almost 9,850 are electric, and about 78 thousand are hybrids. Most of them belong to individuals, with the rest registered by legal entities.
CNED mentions that the data shows a rapid increase in the last five years. By the end of 2020, there were approximately 13,800 such vehicles registered in Moldova. By 2025, the number of electric cars had increased more than 16 times, and that of hybrid cars nearly six times.
Last year, individuals registered over 26 thousand electric and hybrid vehicles, while legal entities registered around 4,300. Specialists note that this trend reflects the growing interest of the population and the business environment in more economical and less polluting means of transport.
According to CNED, the development of sustainable mobility contributes to the reduction of emissions, the decrease in fuel consumption, and the improvement of life quality. According to the Mobility Strategy, by 2030, the proportion of electric and hybrid cars should reach 15% of the total number of cars. At the end of 2025, this indicator was almost 7%.
