Over 20 people awarded on World Blood Donor Day

Dozens of people came to the Palace of the Republic to donate blood, as part of an event dedicated to World Blood Donor Day. On this occasion, over 20 people were awarded for their consistent involvement in donation activities, the organizers emphasizing the essential role of voluntary donors in saving lives, IPN reports.

The Director of the National Blood Transfusion Center, Silvia Rosca, mentioned that the event aims to raise awareness among citizens and encourage blood donation. She emphasized that the goal is to form sufficient stocks of blood products for the continuity of hemotransfusion care.

The Minister of Health, Emil Ceban, emphasized that in critical situations – on the operating table, in the case of birth complications or pediatric emergencies – the chance of survival depends on the solidarity of donors. The official praised those who donate regularly, whom he called the “unseen heroes” of the health system, noting that ensuring blood reserves is a national priority.

The head of the World Health Organization office in the Republic of Moldova, Miljana Grbic, stated that blood donation is an act of solidarity that saves lives. She emphasized the need to treat the transfusion system as an essential part of public health infrastructure and urged the promotion of regular and voluntary blood donations, to ensure sufficient reserves.

The Director of the Blood Transfusion Center in Bucharest, Lucia Grijac, stated that this day represents not only a symbolic moment, but also a reaffirmation of the commitment to collaboration, exchange of experience, and mutual support between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. According to her, the two states share the same responsibility towards patients and respect for blood donors.

The representative of the Red Cross in Switzerland, Viorel Gorceag, pointed out that even the most modern medical technologies cannot save lives without the availability of blood products, which is why donors are the true heroes of the health system. He particularly urged young people to get involved in blood donation, noting that social changes start with simple gestures of solidarity.

In the Republic of Moldova, daily, approximately 100 patients rely on the blood and blood components voluntarily donated. Among them are children diagnosed with oncological conditions, people involved in serious accidents, patients undergoing complex surgical interventions, and women who develop severe complications during childbirth.
