The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Gideon Moshe Sa’ar is paying an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. On this occasion, an important moment in the bilateral diplomatic relations was marked: the opening of the Embassy of Israel in Chisinau. At a news conference, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, welcomed this decision, stressing that it is “an essential step in the development of Moldovan-Israeli relations,” IPN reports.
According to the Moldovan official, the event underlines the extension of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and is a strong signal of Israel’s commitment to bilateral cooperation.
“We express our profound gratitude for the opening of the Embassy of Israel in Chisinau – a historic decision that will boost cooperation in multiple areas,” said Mihai Popșoi.
Gideon Moshe Sa’ar emphasized the strong ties between the two nations, highlighting his Moldovan roots. His grandfather, who was from Chisinau, emigrated to Argentina in 1926, but kept alive the memories of his hometown.
“I am proud that the first embassy I am opening is the Embassy of Israel in the Republic of Moldova. It is a historical milestone and it is an important step in strengthening our relations,” said Gideon Moshe Sa’ar.
About 70,000 people from the Republic of Moldova live in Israel. The Jewish community in Moldova numbers around 20,000 people. This human bond serves as a bridge between the two states, facilitating cultural and economic exchanges, the Israeli diplomat noted.
Among the items on the program of the Israeli official’s visit are meetings with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The discussions will focus on strengthening the economic partnership, developing cooperation in areas such as health and agriculture, but also intensifying tourism between the two countries.
