In these difficult times, the European path becomes more than a political choice, it becomes a moral choice, between fear and hope, between isolation and solidarity, between past and future. President Maia Sandu said this, at the Family Festival organized in Ungheni, in the context of Europe Day, reports IPN.
“When we will be asked to choose again, in any form, in any context, we have to think not only about the present, but also about what we can lose, how easily things we have worked together for years can fall apart”, Maia Sandu added.
According to the President, May 9 is the day of commemoration of the sacrifice of the forefathers and refers to the direction of Moldova – the European road of peace and prosperity. The European dream is more tangible in Ungheni than in other localities, given the many projects implemented with EU support.
On the occasion of the Family Day in Ungheni, Maia Sandu said that the European Moldova that is being built must be above all a country where families live in safety, well-being and confidence in tomorrow. Joining the EU is not an end in itself, but it is a means to ensure peace and security for citizens.
Present at the event, Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, said that given her position, she is working to bring Moldova into the EU, because it does not matter if you are a small or a big country, but what matters are the actions that each country is doing to get into the EU.
According to Marta Kos, the Family Festival has a lot in common with the EU, because family is about unity and values, just like the European community.
The Mayor of Ungheni, Vitalie Vrabie, noted that in Ungheni every step on the European road has a contour, meaning and results. In recent years, the municipality has become a living example of what European assistance means. Thanks to the openness of the EU and the work of the local team, projects related to water and sewage, infrastructure of schools and kindergartens, social projects and others have been implemented.
“We want a European city, we want a country that is a member of the European Union”, the mayor added.
Also today in Ungheni there will be a concert with the participation of local artistic collectives, a bicycle race, an event honoring couples celebrating 50 years of marriage. The day will culminate with a concert featuring several artists, including Anisoara Puica and Kapushon.
