President Maia Sandu decided to donate the Robert Blum Award for Democracy 2024 to the value of €25,000 for the repair and conservation of “St. Pious Parascheva” Church of Nișcani village of Călărași district, IPN reports.
“St. Pious Parascheva” Church, built in 1905, is an architectural monument of national importance, included in the Register of State-Protected Monuments of the Republic of Moldova.
“It represents an essential symbol of the cultural and religious heritage of the village of Nișcani and has an invaluable historical and spiritual value for the local community. The donation made by President Maia Sandu will be used to repair and preserve this important place of worship, thus contributing to the protection of our cultural and spiritual identity,” said the Nișcani mayor’s office.
In May this year, President Maia Sandu received in Leipzig the Robert Blum Award for Democracy 2024 offered under the patronage of the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier. “This award is not only recognition of my efforts, but also a proof of the resilience and determination of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the path to democracy,” the head of state said at that time.
