The former chief of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Pînzari, who also held the post of minister of defense, was remanded in custody for 30 days after the Ciocana branch of the Chisinau City Court fully accepted the prosecutors’ request, IPN reports.
Alexandru Pînzari was arrested last Friday in a case that features employees of the former Division No.5 of the National Investigation Inspectorate of the General Police Inspectorate. The case refers to abuse of power, appropriation of state property, illegal crossing of the state border, disclosure of a state secret and falsification of public documents.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that searches in the car and home of another person investigated in this case were carried on July 30. When the offenses were committed, the person held managerial posts at the General Police Inspectorate of the Ministry of the Interior. As a result of searches, there were seized electronic devices and notes. The suspect was later arrested.
For his part, Alexandru Pînzari said he didn’t break the law and is ready to cooperate with those who handle this case. “I was aware of the “good intentions” of some of the persons interested in this case and I’m therefore not surprised. I just want to tell you that I answer for any of my actions and I’m responsible only for what I did, not for “what seems to someone”,” Alexandru Pînzari posted on Facebook through the agency of his family.
The Democratic Party (PDM) reacted to the arrest of the ex-chief of the Moldovan police, saying it condemns the attacks on the PDM vice president who is a professional, a patriot and a person who cares about the country. “We consider that by his arrest, some of those who should fight stealing and corruption now try to please the new power,” PDM noted in a press release, underlining they hope that Alexandru Pânzari will enjoy a fair trial.
