Over the past few days, a series of cyberattacks on about 80 governmental systems, including public portals and websites, have been fought off with minimal impact for the systems’ functioning, the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service (STISC) reported.
“The nature of the attacks has been complex, involving multiple vectors and with continuous adaptation to the response measures undertaken. Their intensity changed, increasing continuously throughout the day. All attempts to compromise the systems have been reported to the law enforcement agencies”, STISC said.
According to the Service, the purpose of these cyberattack attempts was to cause the unavailability of governmental informational resources by way of “flooding”, or overwhelming of the processing resources.
The attacks had a distributed nature, being carried out from outside of the Republic of Moldova, from IP addresses located in different countries, from compromised equipment and networks, which is considered to be typical for such cyber incidents.
