The Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, will deliver the verdict on July 30 in the case of the former president of the Savings Bank and four other former members of the Lending Committee. They are accused of causing the bank a damage of about three billion lei by granting non-performing loans. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announces that the judicial debates have been concluded, reports IPN.
The prosecutors have requested 15 years of imprisonment for the former bank president, Grigore Gacikevici, and 13 years each for the other four defendants. Additionally, the state accusers have demanded the application of preventive arrest until the finalization of the sentence.
According to the accusation, during the period 2005-2012, the five individuals allegedly approved loans to several economic agents, violating internal norms and banking prudence rules. The loans would have been granted without a real analysis of the repayment capacity, based on incomplete files and without proper verification of the beneficiaries.
The prosecutors also maintain that the sources of reimbursement were not clearly established, and the guarantees were insufficiently assessed or monitored, and in some cases, the funds would have been used for other purposes than those declared.
In total, the Savings Bank would have been prejudiced with approximately three billion lei. The prosecution also requested the admission of the civil action and the joint recovery of the prejudice from the defendants.
