The police officer who allegedly issued a contravention report in the name of Ludmila Vartic, at the request of her husband, has been sent to trial. According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the document would have been issued and electronically signed after the woman’s death, and subsequently the fine would have been paid through the MPay system, reports IPN.
According to prosecutors, the police officer, who served as a senior non-commissioned officer within the “Center” Patrol Section of the National Public Security Inspectorate, allegedly stopped Ludmila Vartic’s husband in traffic on March 3, 2026, after he reportedly failed to comply with road signs. To avoid the penalty, the man supposedly asked for the report to be made in his wife’s name.
Law enforcement officials claim that the police officer would have used the personal data provided by the woman’s husband and would have signed the document with his service electronic signature, and subsequently, the man would have signed the minutes instead of his wife, imitating her signature. Ludmila Vartic was found deceased on the morning of the same day, before the document was drawn up.
The former police officer faces a fine ranging from 47,500 to 75,000 lei or imprisonment from three to six years.
The case regarding the death of the educator Ludmila Vartic from Hancesti is being investigated under the aspect of domestic violence leading to suicide, following the emergence of information about possible acts of domestic violence prior to her death. Initially, the only suspect in the case was the victim’s husband, Dumitru Vartic, who pleads not guilty. Subsequently, the Prosecution clarified that the actions of several people are being investigated, and the inquiry targets both the circumstances of the death and the events that preceded it.
