The State University of Moldova has launched the first online edition of the University of the Third Age, a program designed for elderly people who, for health reasons, reduced mobility or distance, cannot physically attend classes. The first edition brings together 20 participants from different regions of the country, reports IPN.
According to USM, each of the 10 families enrolled in the program has a member who is dealing with disabilities or mobility issues. The new online format aims to provide seniors with access to educational activities right from home, as well as opportunities for communication, socialization and involvement in community life.
The program includes ten interactive lessons conducted online and another ten pre-recorded lessons, which can be followed at each participant’s own pace. In addition to developing digital skills, the courses include topics about emotional well-being, efficient communication, memory and attention stimulation, as well as maintaining social relationships after the age of 60.
The Third Age University is part of the National Program on Active Aging, implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in partnership with UNFPA Moldova, the State University of Moldova, and the Moldcell Foundation. The initiative aims to encourage the active participation of elderly people and to facilitate their access to education, regardless of their location or physical condition.
