The bomb squad of the National Army in 2022 conducted 179 operations to dispose of 668 explosive devices and 14,705 cartridges, IPN reports.
According to lieutenant-colonel Igor Livitski, of the Explosives Disposal Unit, last year the explosive ordnance engineers were most often called out in the districts of Ştefan Vodă, Anenii Noi, Căușeni, Hâncești and Nisporeni. Most of the identified explosives were mines, artillery shells of different calibers, cartridges and hand grenades. All the devices dated from the time of World War II.
A number of 160 munitions, including mines, hand grenades and cartridges, were found on a field in Copceac village of Ceadîr-Lunga district last December. In August 2022, 100 antitank mines, four hand grenades and an artillery shell that posed a threat to life were discovered as a result of faming works in Răscăieți village of Ștefan Vodă district. All the devices were disposed of in conditions of maximum safety.
