Insurers collected 740 million lei and paid out over 300 million in compensation, in three months

In the first three months of the current year, insurance companies in Moldova have underwritten gross premiums totaling 740.2 million lei. The figure is 10.6% higher than in the same period of the previous year, according to data published by the National Bank. At the same time, insurance companies have paid out claims worth 311.2 million lei, 17.2% more than in the first quarter of last year, reports IPN.

The majority of the amounts come from general insurance policies, which generated revenues of 714 million lei, or 96.5% of the total. Life insurance contributed only 26.2 million lei.

The largest payments were made for compulsory motor third party liability insurance policies and for the Green Card. In total, these generated compensations of over 174.7 million lei, of which 138.4 million lei for domestic RCA and 36.3 million lei for foreign insurance.

In parallel, a slight decrease in the average prices for RCA and Green Card policies is observed. The average premium for domestic RCA was 1314 lei, down by 12.6% compared to the same period in 2024. For Green Card policies, the average price was 1060.5 lei, 12% lower.

The average damage for domestic RCA was 20,471 lei, while for Green Card policies it was 84,791 lei, both increasing compared to last year.

According to the report, CASCO insurance and property insurance, especially agricultural ones, have also recorded significant increases in compensation. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, CASCO policies paid 9.2 million lei more, and for agricultural crops – an additional 6 million lei.

At the end of the current March, there were over 1.3 million active insurance policies in Moldova, 2.5% more than in the same period of the previous year.
