PAS MP Nicu Popescu is resigning from his seat to take up his new position as special envoy for European affairs and strategic partnerships. His appointment was announced today by presidential decree issued by Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
“In this role, I will focus on political dialogue and partnerships with EU institutions, member states, parliamentarians, the media, and the cultural community, as well as Moldova’s strategic partners,” Nicu Popescu explained in a post on social media. The former foreign minister stressed that he wants to continue contributing to the country’s accession process to the European Union and to strengthening European support for Moldova.
At the same time, Nicu Popescu wrote that he will work closely with the Presidency, Parliament, Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Office for European Integration.
Nicu Popescu will begin his work as special envoy for European affairs and strategic partnerships on November 10.
