President Maia Sandu proposes that the approvals of the Information and Security Service and the National Anti-Corruption Center become mandatory for appointments to key positions in state institutions. At the same time, the head of state has requested the verification of all state enterprises, following the scandal at Moldatsa, reports IPN.
“What happened at Moldatsa, as well as other deviations that have come to light, are incompatible with my values. I understand people’s anger. The fact that someone from my entourage allowed such things to happen aggravates the situation. I am also upset. I want to be very clear: preferential treatment and wastage of public funds are unacceptable”, Maia Sandu declared in a press conference.
At the same time, President Maia Sandu believes that the Public Property Agency needs to be restructured into two entities. “One enterprise should be responsible for the enterprises with potential, to modernize them, to increase their value. And another entity should take care of the other assets”, Maia Sandu also mentioned.
The head of state spoke about a “systemic error” and explained that the issues relate to the way appointments are made to leadership positions and the supervision of state-owned enterprises. She asserted that, in many institutions, leadership positions are filled by interim appointees, as it is difficult to identify suitable candidates.
At the same time, Maia Sandu has requested an audit of all state enterprises to check how public funds are being used and has asked the competent institutions to investigate all possible abuses. “Even though I do not have the authority to tell the control institutions what to do, I make a public request to the State Fiscal Service, CNA and other relevant institutions to rigorously verify the legality of these actions and decisions regardless of party, kinship or other connections”, declared the president.
Maia Sandu announced that she will undertake a “general cleanup” in the state institutions and sent a message to the members of the Action and Solidarity Party, urging them to ensure that everyone on the team remains loyal to the values that underpinned the party and the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
