No opposition parliamentary party participated in the consultations convened by President Maia Sandu for the appointment of the prime minister candidate. The last invited formations, the Communist Party and the Socialist Party, also boycotted the discussions scheduled for Friday, reports IPN.

Before the consultations, the president of the PCRM faction, Diana Caraman, announced that the party will decline the invitation of the head of state.

“We do not intend to participate in a political imitation whose purpose is to maintain the current power, represented by Maia Sandu, and the course promoted by her,” declared Diana Caraman. She stated that, in the opinion of the communists, the current government must assume political responsibility and urged the other opposition forces not to participate in consultations.

In turn, the leader of the PSRM faction, Igor Dodon, reiterated that the socialists advocate for the organization of early parliamentary elections. According to him, the Republic of Moldova needs a “political reset”, and a new government should be constituted following a new parliamentary scrutiny. At the same time, he stated that the most suitable solution would be the simultaneous organization, next year, of the presidential, parliamentary and local elections, in order to conclude the current political cycle and create premises for a new governance system.

On Saturday, Maia Sandu is set to have consultations with the ruling party. Representatives of the PAS have announced that they will attend the discussions and propose a prime minister.
