Seven clusters, which bring together 20 municipalities, have already approved the decisions for voluntary amalgamation, asserts the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu. The official claims that the reform of the local public administration continues and accuses its opponents of spreading false information to induce panic and confusion, reports IPN.

The message was conveyed in a video material published on social networks, in which Igor Grosu stated that over 760 localities have initiated the amalgamation process, which represents more than 85% of all the town halls in Moldova.

“July 31st is the final date by which municipalities can adopt the decision for voluntary amalgamation. It is essential that, in most localities, the reform happens together with the people – public consultations, village assemblies and opinion polls are taking place”, declared the Parliament’s president.

Igor Grosu reiterated that the Government and Parliament will support the town halls that choose to voluntarily amalgamate, the objective being the creation of a more efficient local administration and the improvement of public services.
