Almost three tons of rice, destroyed by ANSA, due to the high content of chemical residues

AnnouncementSociety

Almost three tons of rice were destroyed after laboratory analyses confirmed the exceeding of the maximum limit allowed for Piperonyl Butoxide residues, a substance used for pest control. The decision was made by the operator, and the destruction was carried out under the supervision of ANSA inspectors, reports IPN.

According to the National Agency for Food Safety, it is about three batches of Arborio rice that did not meet the food safety standards of the Republic of Moldova. The batches were first placed under official detention, and were subsequently destroyed.

Piperonyl butoxide is a substance used to enhance the effect of certain insecticides. The residues of this substance in food are regulated by maximum permitted limits, and exceeding these limits makes the product non-compliant.

ANSA specifies that not a single kilogram from the non-compliant lots has reached the commercial networks or the end consumer.

The Agency reiterates that food products imported into the country must comply with food safety legislation. Products found to be non-compliant are retained and, depending on the situation, subjected to conditional use or destruction.
