A truck allegedly empty tried to cross the Leuseni-Albita checkpoint with almost a million cigarettes hidden in the trailer ceiling, but was exposed by customs officers, reports IPN.
During advanced searches, 991,300 cigarettes were found in the truck’s ceiling, which were to be illegally transported to Romania, reports the Customs Service. This was followed by searches in Chisinau, which resulted in the seizure of computing equipment and documents relevant to law enforcement.
The institution specifies that the organizer of the scheme and the truck driver have been detained for attempting to illegally transport goods. The two detained men will be placed in custody for 30 days and risk serving between 3 and 12 years in prison.
