For the first time, a national forest inventory will be carried out in the Republic of Moldova. According to authorities, this will provide a detailed picture of the country’s forest resources, the state of the forests, and the measures needed for their protection, reports IPN.
The document has been approved by the Government and aims to launch Cycle I of the National Forest Inventory. According to the Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, this is the first time such a project is being implemented on a national scale. He further stated that all information will be digitized and will be publicly accessible.
The new system will help the state make better decisions for forest protection, their care, and also to cope with climate change. The implementation of the National Forestry Inventory will be completed by 2030 and has an estimated budget of 2.4 million euros. Of this amount, 1.6 million euros is a grant offered by the Romanian Government.
The technical part of the project will be carried out by the Forest Research and Management Institute, under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment.
