The food additives will be authorized only after thorough inspection based on scientific evidence. The Cabinet approved a bill by which the regulations applicable to food additives will be updated so that the quantity of substances in products placed on the market does not pose risks to consumers’ health, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Health, the consumption of food products that contain additives above the permitted limits can affect the health of consumers through allergic reactions, respiratory disorders, skin disorders, diseases of the central nervous system and of the endocrine system.
To ensure the protection of the population, the norms regarding the compilation of the list of permitted food additives and the conditions of using these will be reviewed in accordance with the EU regulations.
The provisions concerning the reassessment of food additives will be put into practice by a Ministry of Health order.
