The National Police is in a continuous process of modernization. For this year, both the Police and the other subdivisions attached to the Ministry of Internal Affairs have an ambitious agenda. As for the police, an important element is regionalization, deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Andrei Cecoltan stated in an interview with IPN, IPN reports.
“Regionalization implies the optimization of administrative functions, and these will no longer exist in each district, but will be concentrated in the regions. Thus, the freed administrative positions will be transferred to the local level,” said Andrei Cecoltan.
As a result of this initiative, the citizens will have faster access to services of a higher quality. “When someone calls 112 or has another need, the intervention will be swifter. The policeman will be closer to the citizen,” added the deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Andrei Cecoltan said that the total number of employees will not increase, but more police officers will be assigned to work on the street, following the redistribution of resources.
Regarding the process of reforming the National Police, the deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that the legislative compliance with European standards is the first step of the reform. The implementation of the mechanisms will follow.
“An eloquent example is the cooperation with Frontex. Frontex officers work alongside the Border Police, which ensures not only legislative harmonization, but also the transfer of European methods and operational models,” noted the official.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the European path of the Republic of Moldova and, in particular, of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, did not begin with the achievement of the status of candidate country. This process started much earlier. A number of mechanisms had been borrowed from the EU, especially following the liberalization of the visa regime.
