Despite the war in Ukraine, the region and city of Odessa have been given permission to open for the summer season. Authorities have already approved the opening of 12 beaches on the Black Sea coast, with the possibility of expanding this number in the coming period, IPN reports.
Eleven of the open beaches are located in the cities of Odessa and Chornomorsk, and one is in the town of Prymorske, in the Izmail region.
“The weather in the Odessa region is improving, which means that the holiday season is gradually beginning,” said the head of the Odessa regional administration, Oleg Kiper, quoted by the Unian news agency.
The official stressed that, despite the approved relaxations, security risks remain and citizens are required to comply with safety rules. Access to the beach will be prohibited during air raid alerts, in case of detection of suspicious objects, or in storm conditions of grade 2 or higher.
The authorities in Odessa have previously announced that they intend to double the number of beaches open this year compared to last summer, from around 20 to over 40.
