Approximately 85,000 households in Moldova will be able to increase energy security by obtaining access to investments in renewable energy, while 1,200 refugees and 40,000 Moldovans hosting refugees will receive assistance. It goes to two projects financed by the Government of Japan and implemented together with UNDP, IPN reports.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean told a news conference that a register of farmers will be implemented to ensure the efficient allocation of resources to all the institutions. This will increase transparency in the allocation of funds to SMEs. Another component refers to community police, ensuring of security at community level with the involvement of all the inhabitants. The second project aims to reduce the consequences sustained by Moldova due to the war waged by Russia on Ukraine. “The project will strengthen the National Employment Agency’s capacity so that we can efficiently support the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the refugees integrated into our society so that they are integrated also into the labor market of Moldova,” stated the Premier.
“We will engage in energy transition, will promote solutions based on biofuel, biomass so as to improve the situation of over 40,000 citizens. Besides this, we aim to come up with solutions to ensure energy efficiency. This is in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the agenda contained in the Sustainable Development Goals. The focus on food security is another important aspect we aim to elucidate. We will offer assistance to the Government in implementing the food security strategy and in coping with other crisis,” said director of UNDP’s Crisis Bureau Asako Okai.
Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Yoichiro Yamada said the G7 is aware of the role played by the Republic of Moldova in keeping regional stability and of the country’s extraordinary contribution to protecting the Ukrainians who had to flee their homes. “We realize the enormous economic, political and social difficulties faced by the country,” stated the diplomat.
The projects form part of the US$27 million assistance package for Moldova announced by the Government of Japan last December as humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian refugees and for the Moldovan communities hosting these refugees.
