The Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) has postponed the approval of the results of the public competition to select a new Prosecutor General. This was decided to allow a number of petitions from the candidates related to the process.
In particular, prosecutor Igor Demciucin asked for copies of CSP decisions related to the contest, including the evaluation sheets for the four candidates. Two other petitions request the removal of the evaluation sheets filled out by Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru and CSP president Dumitru Obada in the interview phase.
Another candidate, Ion Munteanu, current Acting Prosecutor General, asked to get acquainted with all the evaluation sheets of the candidates, as well as for these sheets to be made public.
“The petitions submitted by the candidates have a direct impact on the examination of the final results. The examination is proposed to take place on February 28”, said CSP president Dumitru Obada. The proposal was supported by the CSP members.
The CSP meeting was postponed until February 28.
With 8.53 points, Octavian Iachimovschi got the highest score in the interview phase. Igor Demciucin follows with 8.19. The current interim Prosecutor General, Ion Munteanu, scored 8.16, and the jurist Andrei Coca 4.72 points.
The position of Prosecutor General fell vacant after Alexandru Stoianoglo was fired in September 2023.
