A 40-year-old man fatally struck a cyclist with his car on the M-5 road in Corlăteni village of Râșcani district on Sunday evening. The driver turned out to be in a state of severe alcohol intoxication, IPN reports.
The General Police Inspectorate said the cyclist was 56 years old and was a resident of Balti municipality, as the driver is. As a result of the impact, the man died on the spot.
The breath test showed the driver had a breath alcohol concentration of 0.72 mg/l, which is severe alcohol poisoning.
He was detained for 72 hours. Criminal proceedings were instituted to establish all the circumstances of the road accident.
