The National Bank of Moldova has won the Silver Award at the Romanian PR Award 2025 for the project “A thousand reasons to try MIA”. The distinction recognizes the impact that the instant payment system has on the way people and companies make payments in Moldova, reports IPN.
The winning projects were selected by an international jury, composed of experts from 22 countries. According to BNM, the award confirms the position of the national bank as a promoter of a modern payment infrastructure and underscores the role of MIA in changing the relationship between citizens, businesses and financial services.
“MIA is one of the most visible transformations of recent years, it has changed the way people manage their money and simplified interactions with public institutions”, emphasized the governor of BNM, Anca Dragu.
The payment system allows immediate transfers between domestic bank accounts, using only the recipient’s phone number. Launched in March 2024, the system now has 800,000 individual users. One in two mobile banking users uses MIA. Since July 31, 2024, companies have been using the system for payments to suppliers, collections, reservations, or recurring payments. Over 11,000 commercial points accept MIA, and the monthly volume of payments exceeds 100 million lei.
From July 31, MIA is also available for the payment of public services through EVO and MPay. People can instantly pay taxes, fines, administrative services or university fees.
