Members of Parliament should not use their image in commercial advertisements, involve Parliament employees in political or personal activities, nor promote legislative initiatives that violate fundamental rights. These are among the recommendations of the Promo-LEX Association for strengthening integrity and ethics in Parliament, reports IPN.

The organization proposes the clarification of deputies’ obligations to prevent discriminatory speech, offensive expressions, and the abuse of administrative resources for political purposes. The recommendations also aim at preventing conflicts of interest and prohibiting professional activities involving relatives or close persons within the Parliament.

In their relationship with citizens, deputies should publish information about hearings, including the time, place, and results of the discussions, for transparent and responsible communication.

For the Parliamentary Ethics and Conduct Committee, Promo-LEX recommends an odd number of voting members to avoid decision-making blockages, as well as greater representation of the opposition, for balanced evaluations.

The Association also proposes the publication of public interest data in open and reusable formats, so that civil society can analyze legislative activity, the application of sanctions, and the activity of parliamentary committees.
