Almost 30 citizens of the Republic of Moldova were safely evacuated from the Middle East on March 9, on the Muscat-Bucharest route, through the European rescEU mechanism, part of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The operation was carried out with the involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic missions in the region, reports IPN.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so far no victims or injured persons have been reported among the Moldovan citizens in the countries of the region. The Embassies of the Republic of Moldova maintain direct contact with the citizens and provide consular support based on the requests received.
In Israel, the security situation remains tense. Israeli authorities have extended restrictions until March 14, 08:00 PM. During this period, educational activities are suspended, and gatherings are limited to a maximum of 50 people, provided there is the possibility of quick movement to shelters in case of alarms being triggered. Commercial flights continue to operate on a limited basis.
In the United Arab Emirates, the general situation remains stable, and public services and infrastructure are operating normally. However, the Moldovan authorities are monitoring possible disruptions to air transport and are analyzing travel options for citizens who wish to leave the region.
In Qatar, the situation remains complex, and the airspace is partially reopened, which makes operations limited. Local authorities recommend avoiding non-essential travel and adhering to official instructions.
Turkey remains an important transit point for people leaving the Middle East, with airports operating flights as usual. In Azerbaijan, flights are operated, but transit options for those who might leave Iran are limited and require coordination with the authorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends Moldovan citizens in the region to follow the instructions of the local authorities, avoid non-essential travel, constantly check the status of flights directly with the airline operators, and maintain contact with the Moldovan diplomatic missions.
