After nearly two years at the helm of the Government, Dorin Recean has announced that he will not continue in the role of Prime Minister. The Premier also specified that he is giving up his mandate as a deputy, obtained on the lists of the Party of Action and Solidarity in the elections of September 28. Statements to this effect were made during a press conference, held alongside the leader of the PAS, Igor Grosu, reports IPN.
Igor Grosu mentioned that the intention of the party was to put forward Dorin Recean as the prime minister in the new government, however, he declined the proposal. According to him, the PAS will come up with a proposal for the prime minister position, but he avoided giving names. He specified that he wants the future government to be supported by the pro-European parliamentary majority, represented by PAS and the other factions in the legislature will have the best opportunity to support the Republic of Moldova and the government in the process of European integration.
In this context, Dorin Recean explained that his decision is a personal one and that his term ends with the beginning of a new stage for the country. “I am honored by the trust that PAS offers me and the party’s intention to continue to offer me the prime minister’s mandate. However, my decision is different. I got involved two and a half years ago with a very clear mandate – to ensure security and constitutional order. I never intended to stay in politics. My term ends here, along with this new stage our country is entering”, the Prime Minister stated.
Dorin Recean was appointed as Prime Minister in February 2023.
In the parliamentary elections of September 28, the PAS won 55 seats, the Patriotic Electoral Bloc – 26, the Alternativa Electoral Bloc – 8, and both the “Partidul Nostru” Party and the “Democratia Acasa” Party each won 6 seats. The Constitutional Court is set to review the notification regarding the confirmation of election results and the validation of the elected deputies’ mandates on October 16.
