Drugs worth 2.5 million lei seized in joint operation with Ukraine

Law enforcers have seized 150 thousand psychotropic pills worth an estimated 2.5 million lei in a joint operation with Ukrainian authorities. Ten people were detained, including people responsible for running the drug distribution network in Ukraine, IPN reports.

The “dealers” pretended to offer diet pills, but in reality they were selling drugs.

Of the ten arrested, two are Moldovan nationals. At the request of the PCCOCS, a 32-year-old man, considered the leader of the group, was arrested for 30 days and a 45-year-old woman is being investigated at large.

The drugs arrived in Moldova by post from Kazakhstan. They were then transported to Otaci, where they were picked up and distributed by couriers from Ukraine. Following an attempt to transport a new batch of psychotropic substances, couriers were detained in Ukraine.

Searches followed in both countries, seizing more than 150,000 psychotropic pills, calculators, mobile phones, three cars used to transport the substances and money allegedly derived from the crime.

Prosecutions continue in both countries.
