Tudor Deliu, former lawmaker and president of the Moldovan Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), passed away at the age of 67.
“He died after a severe illness, which crushed him and which he endured discreetly and humbly”, the PLDM said in an obituary.
“A man who dedicated his life to the country, a man who defended his country with a gun in his hands in the 1992 conflict, a man who served the national interest, is now leaving us, leaving behind an example for everybody of what a political leader should be like. His attitude, his principled behavior seemed descended from the politicians of the Interwar era, as he dedicated his whole life to the wellbeing of people. Moldova loses a loyal servant of hers and a man who always fought for her interest. Modest and convinced that only morality, enlightened patriotism and social justice can create a responsible society for its citizens, Tudor Deliu will remain a role model in Moldovan politics”, his fellow Liberal Democrats stated.
Tudor Deliu was a member of the Moldova Parliament from 2010 to 2019. In 2018, he was elected president of the PLDM, serving until the re-election of Vlad Filat on August 16, 2020.
