“Ukraine is fighting heroically for the security of all of Europe and the Republic of Moldova. It must be supported for its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. We condemned and continue to condemn the annexation of Crimea, but also the recent so-called referendums in the Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine,” declared the Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Grosu during the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform.
The Moldovan official noted that missiles launched by Russia at Ukraine crossed Moldovan airspace, endangering civil aviation among other things. “This is a flagrant violation of the national airspace and neutrality of the Republic of Moldova committed by the Russian armed forces, which is categorically condemned”.
“Neutrality does not mean that you do not have to defend your airspace. Moreover, when you have such a status, you especially need to pay more attention to this, and we will pay that attention. All the more so since we have partners who help us become stronger and one of the priorities is the dedication of the army”, said the Moldovan speaker.
From the first days of the war, Moldova joined the international community in condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine and demanded an immediate end to the aggression. Moldova has provided shelter for more than half a million refugees who fled the war. About 80 thousand refugees still remain in the country.
