Klaus Iohannis: Romania remains key partner of Moldovan citizens

Romania will continue to support the European course of the Republic of Moldova and remains the main partner of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis stated in a meeting with the President of Moldova Maia Sandu in Bucharest, IPN reports.

According to the Romanian presidential press service, Klaus Iohannis underlined the consistent support offered to Moldova for managing the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that Romania in 2021 donated to Moldova medical and protection equipment to the value of €2.3 million and over 200,000 doses of vaccine and is to now provide the 6,000 tonnes of diesel fuel intended for Moldovan farmers.

The Romanian official reiterated the message of support for the reform agenda promoted by President Maia Sandu in support of the bilateral strategic partnership and the privileged relations between the two states.

For her part, Maia Sandu thanked Romania for the assistance offered primarily in the difficult pandemic situation and for its support for Moldova’s European course, saying she will continue to back the efforts made to implement the reform agenda in a democratic and European spirit.

The two Presidents agreed to continue the high-level bilateral dialogue so as to extend the cooperation in a number of areas, especially as regards the bilateral projects of strategic importance, with emphasis on the energy sector, transport, education and health. The ensuring of Moldova’s sustainable development and its irreversible connection to the European area remain the major objectives of this cooperation.

During her April 20 visit to Bucharest, Maia Sandu had meetings with Prime Minister Florin Cîțu, Senate President Anca Dragu and the President of the Chamber of Deputies Ludovic Orban.
