A 29-year-old man who set fire to his younger sister as a result of a conflict over inheritance division will serve 13 years and four months in jail. The victim died in the hospital. The sentence was passed by the central Hâncești Court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the case happened in March, in a village of Hâncești district. Following a squabble over the division of the money earned from the sale of real estate, the man splashed his sister with a flammable substance all over her body and set her on fire.
The victim suffered serious burns and died shortly afterward in the hospital.
Witnesses said the two often squabbled over financial issues.
The man admitted his guilt. He was held on remand until the conviction sentence was pronounced.
The sentence can be challenged in the Appeals Court within 15 days.
