Ninel Revenco, coordinator of the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign, calls on the people to be prudent during the Easter holidays as a new wave of infections is expected at the end of May. Last year’s experience shows that the family reunions during the Easter holydays favor the spread of the virus, IPN reports.
The campaign coordinator noted that collective immunity to the SARS-COV-2 is needed and we should get used to the presence of this virus.
‘The state of public health emergency will not be overcome this year. COVID-19 will gradually turn into a season respiratory infection. The virus will not leave and we should learn to live with it. That’s why all the measures imposed by the international organizations and national authorities should become law for everyone,” Ninel Revenco stated in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.
Moreover, the virus undergoes severe mutations and the new strains are much more aggressive than the initial variant and cause more serious complications.
“The new strains are more virulent and spread faster and affect not only the older persons, but also those aged 30 and those under 30 and even children and this is serious. The virus affects the lungs, kidneys and the central nervous system,” stated Ninel Revenco.
Since the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 has claimed 5,668 lives in Moldova. Of the victims, 114 were health workers.
