The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) has a new acting president. This is Sergiu Caraman, who was elected to this post in Tuesday’s meeting of the Council. In the same meeting, the resignation from the post of acting president of the SCM tendered by Nina Cernat was accepted, IPN reports.
Ion Guzun and Vasile Șchiopu gained by four votes. Given the parity of votes, Sergiu Caraman was proposed for the post and he obtained seven votes from the SCM members.
The post of SCM president will be held on an interim basis until a new president is elected. Under the legislation, the president of the Superior Council of Magistracy is elected by secret ballot for a two-year term by a majority of votes of Council members and serves on a permanent basis.
